About the Bakery
The idea for this bakery was conceived and has taken shape since our daughters were diagnosed with celiac disease in 2005. Taking time to adjust, we realized that celebrating with family and friends was especially difficult. We wanted to give our girls the joy of being honored and loved by being included in life’s special celebrations. We found the products that were the most difficult to replace was baked goodies, especially those that tasted like their gluten containing counterparts.
We are a family owned business and we began with our love for baking in 1996, when we opened our restaurant which showcased our home cooking and baking, after the sale of our business, we continued baking commercially. In 2005, our families (two sisters) had a life changing event—each of our daughters was diagnosed with celiac disease, and later in the year we were confirmed celiac also. Our entire way of life and eating was forever different.
Back to the drawing board—We have spent years experimenting with recipes and trying to find the most delicious ingredients and to find the perfect combination of creating a cake with a wonderful taste and texture that is impossible to tell from the cakes that have gluten. We prefer to bake with the goodness of top quality natural ingredients, and are made with local, pure, fresh ingredients. We are excited to be able to offer a range of vegan cakes. For those with dietary restrictions, we offer Vegan/Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free/Gluten-Free, Egg Free/Gluten-Free, and Nut Free/Gluten-Free.
We began Outer Banks Gluten Free Baker in order to bring other families the same happiness that we now experience in sharing the special moment with the most important people in their lives. All the guests at the special occasion can relax and enjoy the event regardless of dietary restrictions, and their comfort can be ensured at the celebration.
To paraphrase Mahatma Gandhi:
"Your (gf) actions become your (gf) habits, your (gf) habits become your (gf) values, your (gf) values become your (gf) destiny."
